Sandbekk in Morgenbladet:
In Morgenbladet for week 3 2023 we find an article about the history of titanium dioxide!
A 7-page report on the research project that Marte Johnslien and Ingrid Halland are conducting on the complexity of the white pigment titanium dioxide's history from patenting that took place at Sandbekk where Velferden is located, and forward through the century to how this industry works today.
The article also shows how Kronos Titan marketed "titanium white" in a racist way in its 1900s advertisements.
The Norwhite research project sheds new light on the significance of the remaining mining environment at Sandbekk in Norwegian industrial history, and shows how important it is to preserve the cultural environment and what remains of the history of the area. The buildings tell these stories, and help to keep this whole theme alive, accessible and relevant in society today.
Without the buildings, all we have left are archives. An archive becomes a puzzle when the buildings stand there and bear witness to one of Norway's most important industrial inventions from Sokndal municipality, Norway's largest mining municipality!
The article was written by Helene Hareide and photographed by Knut Egil Wang.
Highly recommend reading! ! !
Tønes is also included, Bellona is mentioned and of course lots of good things about the great researchers who make it all possible, as well as Head of Research and Development at Titania Marte Tøgersen.
Hooray for knowledge growth!
