RESIDENCY: Anne Marte Aure

Anne Marte is a recent graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture Paris-Malaquais. Her work deals with geopolitical issues on a territorial scale, and focuses on cultivating narratives that advocate for a broader understanding of our surroundings. She is interested in how geology has shaped the living patterns of humans and more-than-humans through time. In recent years, she has worked to uncover how we build ourselves into dangerous situations with a particular focus on the ground we live on.

Anne Marte has been on a residency with us in March 2024. During this period, she has explored and mapped Sokndal, and what is known as the Egersund field or Rogaland anorthosite province. She herself writes about her stay:

"I've been on several excursions in search of local consequences of global phenomena. Here I have gathered as much local knowledge as possible to challenge existing dogmas. My goal is to show the diversity of life and situations that exist in this unique part of the earth's crust. I've visited the ruins of capitalism, the Titania waste dumps together with Arild Aamodt, walked in the areas that are in danger of disappearing to open-cast mining and landfill at Helleland, and I've gotten to know Maiken, Hanna and Hansi at Velferden and learned a lot about all the effort that goes into preserving the old farm buildings at Sandbekk."

We can't wait to see how her work based on the connections here in Sokndal continues to develop in the time to come.
