Maiken Stene (b. 1983) lives and works in Sokndal, Norway. She has her degree in Fine Art from the Malmö Art Academy and The Cooper Union School of Art in New York. Stene's art is rooted in her personal relationship with landscapes and how historical representations of landscapes continue to influence our relationship with nature today. Stene is best known for her painting practice, which she presents in the form of scenographic installations mixed with video, sculpture, text and an academic program.

Stene has exhibited at venues including the Nordnorsk Kunstnersenter, Akershus Kunstsenter, Trøndelag Center for Contemporary Art, Stavanger Art Museum, LNM, Oslo Kunstforening, Hå Gamle Prestegard, and Uppsala Art Museum. Her works have been acquired by institutions such as Stavanger Art Museum, REV-Ocean, Oslo Kommune, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Equinor, the Swedish Public Art Agency, and several private collections. Stene is the director and curator at Velferden.
